I’m continuing to walk virtually along US Route 40, currently roughly in a southwest direction. Today’s position is fairly near a place called out on Google Maps as Elk Springs, but there doesn’t seem to be anything there other than a couple houses. Otherwise lots of scrub, not much else.

The last thing I passed through (earlier this week) that I’d regard as a populated place, however small, was the unincorporated community of Maybell , population 76 as of 2020. It has the platonic ideal (at least its exterior is) of a general store , complete with one Sinclair gas pump… and a Sinclair dinosaur. A small one, but appropriate considering I’m now about 13 km south of Dinosaur National Monument. Won’t be passing through the latter, unfortunately.

A map showing my progress is here , a spreadsheet with progress detail is here , and a Google Earth KMZ file is in  this Google Drive folder . Present coordinates: 40.332°N, 108.492°W .
